Self-hosted vs. Cloud
You can use Netzilo in two ways. Netzilo Cloud is run by Netzilo: you sign in at https://go.netzilo.com and install only the Netzilo client on your devices. Netzilo Server is the same platform on a server you run yourself: on your own Linux host, or from the AWS or Azure Marketplace.
Both offer the same networking, AI security and secure workplace features. The difference is who runs the server and what that brings with it.
How they compare
| Netzilo Cloud | Netzilo Server (self-hosted) | |
|---|---|---|
| What you install | Nothing on a server. Only the Netzilo client on devices | One Linux server: the one-line installer, or the AWS or Azure Marketplace image |
| Addresses | Dashboard https://go.netzilo.com, management https://srv.netzilo.com | One domain of yours serves the dashboard, API, management, signal and sign-in on port 443 |
| Data location | Netzilo's infrastructure | Your server, or your own PostgreSQL database |
| Sign-in | Google, Microsoft and GitHub accounts out of the box; Okta single sign-on switched on by Netzilo support | A bundled identity provider on your server, which can connect to Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace, any OIDC or SAML provider, or LDAP. See Identity provider and SSO |
| E-mail invitations | Work out of the box | Work once you configure an SMTP server |
| Relay | Netzilo-run relays | One relay on your server, installed with it. No bandwidth limits; size the host for your relayed traffic |
| Clientless access | Provided at srv.netzilo.com:8443 | The gateway container on port 8443 of your server. See Clientless-access gateway |
| Published applications | Under the shared domain netzilo.app | Under an applications domain of yours. See Published applications |
| AI Assistant | Runs in Netzilo Cloud, with the AI provider your account owner connects | Runs on your server with an AI provider your account owner connects. See AI Assistant |
| AI Gateway | You run the Netzilo AI Gateway yourself | The same |
| Plans | Free (5 users, 100 devices), Professional and Enterprise. See Plans & Billing | Every feature, no user or device limits, no billing page |
| Billing | Under Settings > Plans & Billing | On AWS and Azure Marketplace: per named user per hour, through the marketplace. Agents are not billed |
| Availability | Netzilo runs a highly available control plane | One server. There is no clustered setup; you recover by restoring a backup to a new server |
| Updates | Done by Netzilo | Done by you, see Upgrade and add components |
| Backups, certificates, monitoring | Done by Netzilo | Done by you, see Backup and restore |
Which to choose
Choose Netzilo Cloud when you want nothing to operate: no server, no updates, no backups. You can start in minutes, see the Quickstart Guide.
Choose Netzilo Server when your data must stay in your own infrastructure. Plan for the work it brings: a server with backups you test, upgrades, certificate renewal if you use your own certificate, and an SMTP server for e-mail.
The server's domain is permanent: moving a self-hosted server to another domain, or between Cloud and self-hosted, means setting up the new server and enrolling devices again.
